SAFFRON (Crocus Sativus):

Cultivation of Saffron in Iran dates as long as 2000 years back. This Precious plant is without any stem but has got bulb and grows in deserts.  It is so called the Red Gold!

110,000 to 170,000 Saffron Flower Bulbs are needed to get just 1 Kg dried Saffron. Saffron due to its exotic taste, hue and aroma has many uses in culinary, medicinal / pharmaceutical and chemical applications. Due to its limited production, it is considered as one of the most precious products. Iran with annual production of upto 200 – 300 Kg, ranks First in the production of Saffron in the World.

Saffron is a good anti-depressant, source of vitality and improves function of the digestive system. It is a diuretic, as a result is helpful to cleanse the kidneys and the bladder. Facilitation of food digestion, removal of flatulence in stomach, facilitation in blood circulation and hematopoiesis are its other benefits. Saffron is a strong anti-oxidant, hence it is a strong anti-cancer.

One of the prominent features of Saffron is its vitality advantage and due to this many European pharmaceutical companies are using it as the main ingredient of anti-depressant drugs. Crocin & Safranal present in Saffron have the same effect as Fluoxetine so as to prevent reabsorption of Dopamine, Norepinephrine and Serotonin and thus exert its anti-depressant effects.  Improvement in anti-depression mood leads to increase in libido, as depression is one of the most important constraints to the sexual desire.
